Version 1.03 has released. You can update your game client by logging onto the game server (the best way) or by installing the new version over previous one.
| Cooler | 2009-06-18 20:17:04 |
Some changes differ from announced in "Version 1.03 changes" topic.
Phoenix now is vulnerable to Tornado and Blood Ritual casted on it.
| Zannoland | 2009-06-18 22:53:23 |
archangel ability is also 2 air instead of 3. new death spell is missing a sound effect and heals you instead of being arma jr. good call there. playing mech is quite pleasant now.

Some of the further new changes are good, but I noticed a small error;
Chaos 2 is listed as a 4/16 in the Help menu (bad), but is thankfully only 4/15 in the game still.

You should probably edit the original changes list, Cooler. Then maybe the card list as well.
| FinalSlayer | 2009-06-19 01:07:21 |
Initial impressions;
Dragon is now God-tier. Best card in the game. Wow. This is the problem with BUFFING a card that was already one of the most dreaded, strongest in the game.
Illusion has actually gotten BETTER. Partly because Illusion 4, another top 5 card, inexplicably received a buff, and also, because Illusion 7 is obscenely strong, Illusion 5 and 6 got better since the biggest creatures were weakened, (just like I predicted in the topic with LiarBrain), and healing got a bit weaker (Water Elemental, and being at 19 Health, Air 4 can now be comboed off of more easily with things like Fire 6 or Air 8).
All of that being...overall, I feel this update was POSITIVE.
Chaos is a much more viable class. Illusion is now among the very top. Death is no longer bullshit. Control is still godly, but thankfully, a little weaker.
On the downside, Mech is actually WORSE than ever (its "improvements" didn't address any of the class's intrinsic weaknesses, unfortunately), and buffing elementals as well as Dragon just makes Holy that much more of a beast...
| Wavelength | 2009-06-19 02:48:05 |
Congrats on getting the new release out!
I personally think Illusion has been nerfed almost to the point of irrelevance, but otherwise agree with Final.
Dragon is great, Holy is great, Chaos is viable, Death has been made more balanced (nice job on these overall), I thought spells would become weaker intrinsically but I've yet to see evidence that they have been...
Still evaluating how the game feels without 10+ attack creatures. On first glance I do like it...

Hey guys please contact steam administration to update the game on their servers, I can't play spectromancer through steam anymore :)

Hey guys please contact steam administration to update the game on their servers, I can't play spectromancer through steam anymore :)
It is updated there, but something is wrong with it. I'm in touch with them to figure out how to solve the problem.
Hi guys. I updated the game through Impulse and it started as the
unlocked version. I tried to enter my key but i keeps telling me
"license has expired". FWI - i have a valid paid for key through
impulse. Anyone experienced this or i'm the only one?
P.S. I've sent a mail to support but they haven't answered yet.

I'm experiencing the same, can't upgrade even though I payed for this game.

When you download game from this site 1.03 and enter your registration code received earlier from steam, everything works ok.
just got a response from support. it seems there is an activation limit attached to a key.

Why Phoenix is not vulnerable to Soul Drain? It say "destroy" like Tornado and Blood Ritual. Modified by Xanatar on 2009-06-21 09:18:38 | Cooler | 2009-06-22 18:29:12 |

Installation package available on this site is fixed. So you can install it to fix wrong descriptions.
Greenhouse version is also can be updated with this executable: http://spectromancer.com/files/greenhouse/spectromancer.exe (just save to the game folder) Modified by Cooler on 2009-06-22 18:34:40 | jsm60dl | 2009-06-22 20:45:45 |

I am not sure whether it is a new change or not, but Water 12 (Astral Guard) can reduce opponent's mana growth to a negative value. Say, having 2 Astral Guards on your side not only prevents your opponent from getting mana, but makes him lose one mana of each type at the beginning of his turn. Should it be like that?

I really feel like spectromancers a much longer game now. I admit that in terms of fun per minute, Spectromancer is still pushing double digit Garcias, but I have to plan spectromancer time into my day, just like it was a turn in Total War or something, which is kind of frustrating. Dragon seems to be the determining factor in whether a game ends quickly or not, in the games I've managed to fit in.

Dragon seems to be the determining factor in whether a game ends quickly or not, in the games I've managed to fit in. Games do seem to last a bit longer than they used to (which I like), but I think it's still the perfect game to pick up for just for a few spare minutes during the day when one has nothing better to be doing. I can't say that I've particularly noticed Dragon affecting how fast games end, but I can say that I've noticed Dragon determining which player wins almost every time. Since the update, games that I've been involved in have had an 80-90% win rate for the player that draws Dragon. The other card that I've noticed a strong positive correlation with is Earth Elemental, but not nearly to the extent of Dragon. I really think this card is the most powerful card we've seen since Spectromancer started (even more powerful than beta Armageddon).

The strange thing is, I still can't figure out why. In terms of pure stats, he's one of the most powerful creatures in the game, and thanks to various mana accelerators, like Water 3, can be played the earliest.
But on TOP of that, he has one of the best special abilities in the game. Small wonder he dominates play so much. Again, all stuff I predicted in late May in the v1.03 changes topic. Honestly, what could have been more obvious?

Hello to everyone,i just wanted to see if anyone has this annoying bug that i do.yesterday i uninnstaled the game (dont know why but i did) and today i instaled it again and when i updated to version 1.03 and restarted an error message appeared and said it couldn't fin some file that was missing from the game directory one called "sbtn1.jpg" and for this reason that window that appears when you first start the game to change resolution doesnt work it's messed up. Â Â And that's not all ingame now it doesnt even remember my id and password i have to enter it everytime i want to play online and for me this is relly annoying,so pls if someone knows how to fix this bug or whatever the hell it is pls post it here on the forum. Â Â Â Â Maybe someone from the team who made this game which is an excelent one many thanks and hope i receive something soon, and i almost forgot the campaign in singleplayer doesn't work too after i beat"Flora"the game just remains like that i can get to the main menu but when i load is the same i dont know if it's a bug but i wnted to mention it anyway. I got the issue with the client not remembering my password and setting upon launch after getting the .exe file that solved the campaign bug. I ended up re-installing the game with the old .exe as i'd rather not be able to play the campaign than have to type in account name and password AND change away from random every time i log in.

Also here is a tiny dragon / control 5 nerf:
Dragon makes spells do 50% more damage, rounded down. Poisonous cloud deals damage equal to half of creature's current hit points, rounded down.
This is also a nerf to Dragon / Control 5 combo. For example, 3 HP and 5HP creatures don't die. A 35 HP, 37HP, 39HP creature opposite Dragon won't die. And many other beneficial nerfs. | wiggin | 2009-10-30 13:03:40 |
The thing is, Dragon in itself is actually not overpowered. If you change it like this, it will nerf Dragon / Control 5, but it will also nerf Dragon in itself, which is not desirable. Also, Control 5 is already inferior to control 6. Not saying Control 5 / Dragon is not annoying, but I'm not sure if this is the solution. I think a smaller move could be to round damage up only once, in the end. I think it's silly that a health 5 creature dies, while a health 4 creature survives. The implicit calculations could eventually be shown by displaying the damage on opponents creatures, if you mouse-over control 5. Really? I wouldn't mind seeing dragon a bit nerfed and I really like garcia's idea. Dragon/chain would be down to 13 which would be just a little less extreme, etc. | Wavelength | 2009-10-30 17:32:55 |
Dragon is definitely overpowered (and VERY overpowered) with ANY spell in the game. Chain Lightning is far from the most broken; it's just that it's the most common.
Poisonous Cloud, on the other hand, is not that overpowered in any context except with Dragon.
If I had my way it would be 10/38, increasing the damage done by all spells by 33%, rounded up. You wouldn't need any strange mechanics and the 33% number actually works really well (in giving you whole numbers to work with) with most spells in the game. And, Poisonous Cloud would bring the enemy creature to 1 life when used while it has 3 or 5 life.
| wiggin | 2009-10-30 17:48:13 |
Estarh wrote in a thread that they have the stats for dragon in level 20-30 games, and it actually fares worse than Fire Elemental and Armageddon. This could still mean that it's stronger, with some other combination of cards, as long as those are sufficiently uncommon. I think there are some specific cases where it is overpowered, but not with chain lightning alone. The draws where Dragon feels overpowered to me: Opponent has Dragon + Water 3 + Local mass destruction, and I don't have Tornado. Modified by wiggin on 2009-10-30 17:51:22 | Wavelength | 2009-10-31 06:10:46 |
Also, Dragon is going to be even better with the Sorcerer class.
| wiggin | 2009-10-31 08:00:10 |
True, but bad with beastmaster. It's a card that runs hot and cold, and there's no way around that. Dragon + Sorcery 4 is scary as hell though.

Depends on whether activated abilities count as spells. If not, you're right... but if so, it's going to be an absolutely insane combo.

I have a similar issue though mine has to do with my activation code...hard drive crashed which made me have to re-install spectro, I paid for the game a long time ago and since changed physical address's and no longer remember my code nor can find it. Now it asks me to buy a code or enter my code at the log on screen (which I don't have as before mentioned). I cant believe they don't provide some type of retrieval process for just this type of issue. I want to keep playing the full version though I don't intend on paying for another code. Anyone have any suggestions to my dilemma? | Tobias | 2009-11-15 09:13:15 |
The strange thing is, I still can't figure out why.
I don't know what that quote is doing there (or how to remove it!). The forum is fucking up yet again. shilock69, if you mailed them without success, I'd suggest you go out and steal a code on the net. If you really payed for the game back when, you're morally in the green. | LazerBrain | 2009-11-15 14:40:27 |
if you bought it through greenhouse you could try logging into greenhouse and seeing if its stored or can be re-issued there (I'm pretty sure thats how I got mine going again when my computer died). I think the steam one works similarly? otherwise.. well in general keep hard-copies of things you need to prove ownership. You could blame the Deptarment of Motor Vehicles if you lost your car's title, but you'd still have to pay the fee all over again to get it re-issued. But apparently when a game designer acts the same way, they're a bunch of fascist's trying to crush the glorious freedom of the internet, and you should use any means to put them in their place, legal or otherwise. Honestly, I feel sympathetic to you, and it sucks when a little thoughtlessness a while ago comes and bites you today (I just had to fork over 50$ to the DMV because I lost MY title haha), but I don't see the developers that sold you a key to their game and say "don't lose this" in every step of the transaction process as being to blame. Still, hopefully they're extra cool and help you sort it out or re-issue you another. Maybe they have a record of the transaction if you can remember the specific time and date you bought your key and where you were geographically when you bought it? If you can say "On August 12th I bought a key through this internet provider in this town" maybe that'd help em look it up or something.

God that quote friggin bugs me.
Anyways, LazerBrain, great reply. Much better than mine, admittedly.
That said, the two situations are hardly comparable. For your analogy to have some merit, the DMV would have to have denied you service - simply refused to issue a new title. In that case, wouldn't you feel justified in driving around anyhow?
| LazerBrain | 2009-11-16 11:16:09 |
He can't get another spectro key for 20?
| Tobias | 2009-11-16 12:18:07 |
Sure (if he wants to pay that much). You think he should have to, though?
I don't. This isn't some government agency with bureaucratic overhead and civil servants heading for retirement. He paid for the service once, that should be enough.
| LazerBrain | 2009-11-16 21:22:18 |
If he lost any way to prove he ever bought it, then yea, I think he should. EDIT: But lets assume he lost the printed copy you're supposed to make (it told me to make a hardcopy and keep it somewhere safe), lost his hard-drive (happens that part did happen to me) and then if he got it through greenhouse or steam its pretty easy to get the info again, so then he's lost that login (similar things have happened to me, I make up some pretty random passwords). If on the other hand he could show a login for an account that had a key previously I do think tech support should toss him his key again, or even another. but assuming he lost that too, and just has no way to prove it well... carelessness has costs. Modified by LazerBrain on 2009-11-16 21:28:26 | Tobias | 2009-11-17 10:14:31 |
Well, if I had lost all that, I probably wouldn't be worrying about spectromancer Seriously though, I would probably shell out another 10-15 bucks, but I wouldn't hold it against anyone who decided to try finding a crack for the game. | LazerBrain | 2009-11-18 03:30:14 |
Honestly I wouldn't either. I'd be a pretty bitter person if I held a grudge against anyone who ever stole cracked or pirated a game/book/song/movie.
