I'd like to propose a one-time tournament idea: Plynx vs. the World! It's pretty obvious from the past year of tournaments that Plynx is better than any other individual player... but is he better than all of us put together? This tournament would pit Plynx in a marathon of matches against the best that the world has to offer, and ask him to survive overwhelming odds. Structure: First, players are divided into three regions: Americas, Europe, and Asia. Players that are not in one of these regions may choose one to join. Then, each region simultaneously competes in its own Swiss round - six rounds, ONE match. At the end of the Swiss round, the two players (from each region) with the highest score move onto the Stepladder Round, with an additional third player (from each region) randomly selected from the Top 6. In the stepladder round, Plynx has three "lives" and must defeat ten opponents to claim the championship. The ten opponents are the nine players who were selected above, plus a 10th opponent that is all of the other Top 6 players working together to decide what cards to play. He will play them in order from lowest Swiss score to Highest. If Plynx wins, his opponent is eliminated from the stepladder round. If his opponent wins, Plynx loses a "life" and the opponent returns to the back of the rotation (so Plynx will have to beat them after he beats all other challengers). I think this would be about the same length as a normal tournament, and could be fun to play one month. Can Plynx defeat the entire world?Modified by Wavelength on 2015-07-05 08:14:59 spiderr | 2015-07-05 08:13:13 |
Good Idea. But That Alien frog can eat up the world. Nice pic there. In exact Plynx will have 3 life and 10 duels to play, sounds good.

I appreciate more the opportunity to defeat him in a regular tournament (even if that time is far way). So maybe as an unofficial tournament it would be fun.

Honestly I think this type of tournament is disrespectful towards the other top players, this would be really declassing. It would be like asking Joker to join forces with the Penguin, Bane, the Riddler etc ... to defeat Batman. One thing is to admit who is currently the strongest one and who is the opponent to beat, another thing is to submit yourself before you start. If you were to organize a similar event, I'm sorry but I anticipate you that I will not attend. Modified by GrimJ0ker on 2015-07-05 16:03:23 Wavelength | 2015-07-05 21:11:05 |
Grim, I think of this more along the lines of shows like "Who's Still Standing" or "1 Vs. 100" and the concept of "Money in the Bank". WSS literally calls the contestant The Hero and even there it's not an implication that their opponents are inferior to them or of a lower class.

I like the image: A galactic pink frog staring at planet Earth in order to... who knows?! In this tournament I played 4 games against him, lost the 4. The reason? I can say in 2 of those games I could have won if played correctly my cards...
Is often seen in forum people claiming "Plynx is super-strong", but being better critics, we must turn the view to ourselves and realize we are the ones to blame, full of misscalculations, late guessing, our plays aren't the best we can do given a certain draw (you can have the winner hand, but play it as crap).
My point is you can make the tournament and still lose: It won't prove how strong Plynx is... but just how inferior we are. I totally reject the belief that playing vs strong opponents will make you stronger.
To be a stronger player you have to beat yourself: Being faster, more effective in rationalizing, foreseeing what you could expect from opponent class, etc. Then try series of 20 games vs archmage, and try 20-0 with full random (both), I have never achieved this by the way... but is a way to measure your progress.
-----------------------------------------
Aside note, I'd find more entertaining to make a full contest "Jeronimo against GrimJ0ker" with all classes elimination, sort of all classes vs all classes in any order (wise-pick) and see if he is ready or not, to be number 2 of the Spectro-world. I'm no longer sure of my position in the ranking because I should have at least won once against Plynx and I couldn't.
I totally reject the belief that playing vs strong opponents will make you stronger.
interesting. i'm very surprised to hear that from you. would you care to elaborate? why wouldn't it make you stronger? do you reject the belief that one can learn from his/her mistakes? playing vs weaker opponents, it is quite possible that those mistakes will not cost you (thus depriving you of the opportunity to acknowledge and address them). this is part of human nature i think. also, the harder a challenge becomes, the more you need to stress yourself and reach your maximum potential, no? i'm not sure i understand your principle about "beating yourself" either. could you please explain a bit more?

This would be an impressive feat, but I don't think it would be a good measure of overall skill at the game. The archmage is a computer, so this would more just be a measure of how much you've learned to predict and counter how the computer will play. You might get so good you could beat it 20 times in a row but still lose easily to a human opponent who adapts, bluffs, makes reads based on your style.

It's my personal view on the subject of self-improvement and individual growth. Mistakes don't teach a damn thing. They only show there is too much to learn yet. Logical mistakes are proofs/evidences that our understanding lacks profundity.
Considering I know the 100% of cards/draw rules (all theory part), when I make mistakes it's because I missed/overlooked something -> It means the problem resides in my perception, my attention, my calculations...
My mental processes won't get any better if I lose 0-5 or 0-100 against a strong solid thinker as Plynx. To beat someone like him, or be at his level of understanding, you have to evolve your rationalization and your intuition (reading what your opponent is gonna do).
Beating yourself means evolving as person/player: Sadly you cannot perceive the feel of "making a progress" (subconscious)... But you will realize you have "made a progress", when facing a difficult situation again, and resolving it successfully.
How to evolve as person/player?: Analyze everything you make well and bad-> Where did you see benefit, and why turned to be a failure in the long run. Memorize your conclusion and next time you face a similar situation, remember to try a different choice. Tip: Commenting aloud what you are thinking helps in building your analysis.

You must first know what the mistake was to learn out of it, and that just he knows alone often (He sees it at once in the game lol...). Maybe also Grim can detect some mistakes...
Game1 - no mistake (nothing to analyze)
Game2 - really no idea (You may have suggestions lol...but just Plynx knows the answer...)
Would you please tell me my dear what my mistake was...(if there was any, 'cause not all lost games against him are mistakes...)?
(@Wave: More or less we play your proposal each month already...)

Oh I see it, damn...A4 instead A2 and then F2 wins...correct??? The tension is high against him...he is always in the cool position...don't forget that when you look at mistakes... (Edit: No, there is no win! W7 instead W4 wins not either... Jero is right, we are damned... )

In first duel, the move that didn't let Plynx defend against "Dragomination" was Paladin. A slot in case of strong Dragon discharge should have been saved (he could use Meditation) since A9 was a sure play at left side of board (I think he regreted the Paladin when you put Dragon in play with all that Air Energy and E10 + E6, since he had E5 so he knew). The duels shows that even if you have 57 life, you cannot be confident about it against Time Class. In second duel, I would have started with sheer Goblin Hero because they will a hell lot of damage before he can block all of them. Then backup attack with vertical presence like Giant Turtle and Earth Elemental. Save Air for A4 life gain, or A8 + F2 to weaken his creatures to maximum (and always kill W6), the F11 should cause maximum damage when exploding (your E10 would remain alive and with at least 8-10 attack), then drop Goblin Raider or a saviour A4 [+10 life] before getting killed. I have to side with Grim Joker here. Plynx is undoubtedly the best Sepctromancer player ever, but he is not unbeatable as Mamoulian proved recently, so there is no need for such a god-like glorification. And i dont think that a tournament should focus on an individual player. Modified by Wavelength on 2015-07-07 06:29:47 Wavelength | 2015-07-07 06:34:55 |
I've had to modify a lot of posts in this topic to remove broken formatting tags. Just in case you guys are wondering why your posts were edited.

I doubt Plynx won all tournaments without loosing games. So he can be beaten. ;-)

Such glorifying tournament should be organized only when the mentioned player is about to retire.

Plynx has saved my life! The world has always been a confusing place to me. So confusing that I often didn't know what to with my life. It was like there were all these marbles that I had to move from one room to another. I found myself overwhelmed and on the brink of suicide by cheese grater (why cheese grater..?.. I didn't want anybody to say I took the easy way out) .... but then I read Plynx's guide to thought.
Now I see life in sequential boxes. No gaps in my life plan now. I always know my next move.
It strkes me as odd that some people are revolting against Wavelength's adoration for Plynx. If you ask me he is underplaying the greatness of this man. That is, if he is a man and not some god sent from the heavens to save all mankind. Modified by Wavelength on 2015-07-24 15:02:04 Tendou | 2015-07-24 20:54:31 |
