I realize that Spectromancer was developed in Russia by non-native English speakers, and so it's understandable that there will be some grammatical errors in the game's text. However, given that the internet facilitates collaboration between people from many different countries and backgrounds, is it too much to ask the developers to have a native speaker of English correct the grammar of some of the in-game text?
I know this might seem like a fairly minor quibble to many players, but to someone who speaks English natively such as myself, seeing messages like "Connection have been lost" or "superPWNZR propose you duel" makes the game seem very unpolished. Also, it's not like this is an insurmountable task I'm proposing here; this is something that would be extremely easy to correct. I agree scyld, but I hope the devs are working on the new magic classes rather than issues like this. As you say, it's not like you're in doubt what they're saying (which would be my threshold for when it becomes urgent enough to deal with here and now).

i, for one, would be more than happy to assist with this sort of thing.

To merely make the in-game text grammatical would hardly take any effort at all, so I doubt it would seriously distract them from their development of the new magic classes. | wiggin | 2010-01-04 09:09:32 |
I doubt there is anything that doesn't distract them from that.

Scyld, I think you could help by writing down all the corrections to the game text as a list and sending it to the devs. I'd happily do that but I'm not a native English speaker.Â

Well, I'm sure people would be happy to help out, but at least they should then know that the developers are planning to use that information...

Wavelength propose you help. (Accept/Reject)
ahh I was wondering why the grammar was so artocious in the game. Its understandable if made my non-native speakers but I know it bothers me and other people like me who actually enjoy playing the campaign and things like that a lot and it is an easy fix.
