I own spectromancer on Steam, will the update automatically apply or will I have to patch it manually?

support told me to download the game from the website and then plug in my code to there.

I bought the upgrade for 9.95 from https://www.plimus.com/jsp/buynow.jsp?contractId=2261921

If you just download the game and click buy you'll get charged 19.95 it seems and the upgrade link from the steam version just tries to get you to download the game again from steam..
