Last night I finally beat the League of Heroes on Hard mode. None of the three levels were easy!
I really liked most of the challenges. The computer plays as [the adorable] Laerdana surprisingly well (where you can't play a card twice until you've used its entire school). I loved the Angry Toothy Marching Stones one; it makes for a completely different game and I hope it makes the online Arena!
The Beehive challenge seemed a little unfair (might be more even if the opponent was Death rather than Control), and the Demon Quartermaster one (while it appears to be favor of the player) was VERY unfair because he often used Hellfire on turn one! The scenario where 10 random cards are disabled each turn was the one I'd really like to see go. Yes, it adds an interesting wrinkle, but it's not a strategic wrinkle. The entire game becomes a crapshoot.
Anyhow, I wanted to suggest that you guys PLEASE add the option for a player who has completed a League to go back to it! In particular, once you have beaten the second (Advanced?) league, you can't play those matches again without making another character and beating the first (Beginner?) league. Maybe add an option after each Tournament Results to "Play This Tournament Again", "Play a Different Tournament" (only offering the ones you've unlocked with that profile), or go "Back to the Main Menu".
Thanks~!
I'd actually recommend changing many of these. The asymmetric ones are terrible. This is the one I play all the time since I can't seem to get online. I really don't like the DemonQuartermaster because, like Wavelength notes, Hellfire on turn 1 is stupid. Beehive is annoying because it seems entirely random whether you have the cards to win. Also air +1 attack is annoying because the player with air 1 + air 3 gets a huge advantage. The strong creature but no earth growth is ok. The rules that affect both player are interesting. Can anyone think of more to include. One thing, I would have the 'all cards change' one happen after you play. Why wait until my turn starts, that is wasted time that can be used to plan.

Suggestions to replace the worse league sections:
1) Players have 30 health but gain 4 health each turn. 2) House many grows twice as fast 3) All mana grows twice as fast 4) Players can play 2 cards per turn 5) Opponent has the same cards as you
Also, I think the 2nd session is the worst and also the hardest. Surprisingly, I found it hardest to beat with Beastmaster, especially on Hard. Sorcery just has so many nice options for dealing with the asymmetry.

I agree the scenario where the guy has the bee hive is pretty ridiculous. The only good strategy I've found is if you're lucky enough to have a wall of lightning you can play in front of the bees. And even then you have to have a pretty good hand to be able to come back from the enormous advantage he starts out with.
It's an interesting single player mode overall. Beat everything with beast master and I'm working on demonologist (just gotta beat the final league.) | DarkKarma06 | 2010-02-03 07:29:17 |
Master healer works too if you can get it up fast. Or forest sprite if you think its really going to hurt you in the early parts of the game.
